Safeguard 5

Safeguard 5

For Rumen-Friendly Silage

What is Safeguard?

Unique approach to silage conservation, with reduced levels of lactic acid, higher WSC conservation and protection through bacterial and VFA inhibition of yeasts and moulds.

We and our supplier are the only independent companies providing a current silage product utilising latest bacterial technology, with the patented Lactococus lactis SR 3.54 organism, offering not only clostridial inhibition, but other subsequent rumen health and productivity benefits.

Direct microbial inhibition of thermoduric bacteria is a major factor, with very significant advantages over conventional additive treatments.

Safeguard 5 is suitable for all classes of silage, including grass, lucerne, maize, and whole-crops.

Manufactured to our strict specification, by the worlds' oldest and largest Biotech company, Chr Hansen AS, whose microbial technology is used in the feeding of 1.8 Billion people every single day.

We believe that as many silage problems are self-inflicted, so, education and advice are a vital and necessary part of the Safeguard 5 product. To that end, we try to offer literature support, farm visits, and meetings, to discuss everything from soil to milk tank, and how Safeguard 5 treated silage can be a vital component on the nutrition, hence the health and productivity of the herd.

Want some more science?

  • ...uses very plant specific enzymes to create pentose sugars that stimulate the production of metabolites from bacteria, which act to suppress pathogenic organisms. This benefit carries through the silage to the rumen.
  • ...provides a Lactobacillus buchneri strain proven to reduce DM losses (the only organism with German DLG approval), to produce aerobic stability benefits, and create energy gains through conversion of some lactic acid. In addition, this strain creates fumarate (quick pH reduction), and Diacetyl compounds which improve the silage flavour for the cow.
  • ...includes a "fast trigger" lactic acid producer, Enterococcus faecium, which inhibits pathogens such as listeria, clostridia, and coliform organisms.
  • ...adds the recently patented Lactococcus lactic SR3.54 strain, which is a hunter-killer of clostridial bacteria, but also expresses methane-bacteria inhibiting bacteriocins.

Disclaimer

Feeding rates are estimates, and other factors, such as animal health and environment, can have a greater impact on how animals perform. There is no guarantee that animals will perform as expected if fed the suggested rates. Rations should be balanced to provide enough energy and protein for animals, and they should include enough forage to keep the rumen healthy. Animals also need access to fresh water at all times.
