WINTER CAKE REQUIREMENTS

If you've not already done so, now is the time to start thinking about your winter diets. Here at GP Feeds we have been busy sourcing raw materials for our winter blends and compounds. It is always a good idea to get your silage tested so that you can match it with the best products to feed your animals. If you need help with this we can help - ring the office and we will arrange for someone to test your silage and check out your diet requirements.

We have the following rations you may like to consider:

  • GPF 18 & 20 Nuts - with a high energy content, sourced from a variety of quality raw materials along with readily available and slow release starch. A good economical ration typically fed to herds yielding 5 - 7,000 litres.
  • Supreme 18 & 20 Nuts - high in energy and is an ideal compliment to good quality silage. Typically fed to herds yielding 7 - 8,000 litres.
  • Supreme HDF 18 & 20 Nuts - high energy rations with 25% starch & sugars. With quality high digestible fibre providing a buffer effect in the rumen. Improves and maintains milk constituents. Typically fed to herds yielding 8,000 litres.
  • Excel 18 & 20 Nuts - as its name suggests it is designed to help high genetic merit cows produce lots of milk. Ultra high energy with 'old fashioned' ingredients. Typically fed to herds yielding in excess of 8,000 litres.

All the above cakes are available in blend form.

MOIST FEEDS

With the recent wet weather, many farmers had been unable to do anything other than first cut silage, and with cows having been brought inside, many have started to feed their winter stocks of silage. With this in mind it is worth considering looking at moist feeds to replace used silage. Here at GP Feeds, we have many of these options available to us, for example Supergrains, Sticky Orange Pudding, amongst many others. As you would expect these products are in great demand and supply is very tight both now and will continue to be for the winter.

  • Supergrains are available in rigid and artic loads for August / September. This superb product, will replace some of the forage already used and make the silage still to be made more palatable. With increasing milk price, milk litres is the key to a profitable future.
  • Brewers Grains are currently sold out for spot, and with production for the coming season expected to be lower, we advise you to consider booking your moist grains winter requirements now.

If you need moist feeds contact the office today on 01948 661602 to discuss your requirements before they run out.

FARM OPEN DAY

Farm open day at:

Mr & Mrs A Richardson
Higher Green Farm, Byley, Middlewich, Cheshire, CW10 9NJ
On Thursday 6th September 2007 (12 noon - 6pm)

Mr & Mrs Richardson, GP Feeds and DeLaval invite you to
Higher Green Farm's Open Day.

"I am pleased to be working alongside GP Feeds" says Andrew Richardson

We thank Andrew Richardson and family for the opportunity to share with you the success of what has been achieved over the past 2 years. This has convinced the Richardson family to make the investment of a brand new DeLaval Parallel Rotary Parlour and collecting shed.

The Richardson family have entrusted us at GP Feeds with the dairy cow nutrition and what a turn around we have seen.

On average an extra 2,000 litres per cow increase in milk yield has been achieved. Butterfat and protein has been increased, along with an improvement in conception rates. A bespoked blend (balanced to the forages) is fed across the herd while a specialist GP Feeds protected fat (CS Plus) is fed to the high's to improve the total energy intake. This in turn helps to maintain and improve butterfat and protein. A very high specification mineral is fed across the herd, which has increased levels of Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Selenium and Copper. This has helped improve the overall herd health, and has significantly improved conception rates.

Do try and talk to Andrew and ourselves on the day, as Andrew will tell you that the success has been achieved due to the consistency of the feed he receives from GP Feeds, the results are a direct result from our company policy of FIXED FORMULATION diets and NO SUBSTITIONS and practical nutritional advice.

Consistency is the key says Andrew Richardson "each load of blend is exactly the same as the last. We used to have dietary upsets from other companies feeds, using a least cost formulation programme. I can honestly say this hasn't happened with GP Feeds. It is amazing to think that these are the same cows as 2 years ago. I didn't realise the potential in them, just by changing my feeding system and now feeding them properly, the litres speak for themselves. I am pleased to be working alongside GP Feeds, we are moving onwards and upwards now, hence the investment we have just made." "I hope you will come along on the 6th September to have a look for yourself."

"We used to have dietary upsets with other companies feeds - but not with GP Feeds!"

Andrew's future targets are:

  • Increase milk yields further
  • Improve herd health
  • Expand the herd in the next 4 years

This is a family day out, where you will be able to enjoy our infamous beef bap and refreshments, there will also be a bouncy castle and games for the children. So do try and spare some time and come and have a look and chat to us all. We are sure you won't be disappointed and a good day should be had by all.

We look forward to seeing you.

SUMMER 2007 FLOODS

CHARITIES' SUPPORT FOR FARMERS AFFECTED BY FLOODING

The Farming Help Partnership charities are working together to provide help and support to those in the farming community affected by the recent flooding and bad weather.
The ARC-Addington Fund has reopened its cash grant scheme that operated during Foot and Mouth Disease. Farmers suffering financial hardship as a result of the flooding can apply for a cash grant to help with business costs. For example, if stock have had to be housed and are eating fodder intended as winter feed, Addington may be able to fund replacement supplies.

Farm Crisis Network (FCN) has volunteers across the UK providing pastoral and practical support to those who have been affected. FCN is working closely with the ARC-Addington Fund in implementing the cash grants and will visit affected farms as the first stage of the application process. Access to other appropriate forms of help including that provided by RABI can then be suggested and brought in.

RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) provides emergency financial assistance to those in the farming community unable to pay domestic bills or purchase the essentials of life in times of crisis. RABI's experienced regional welfare officers are on stand-by to make personal visits to those in need to provide welfare advice and domestic financial support, as and when required.

Those in crisis may receive help from all three charities. Under the banner of 'Farming Help', the charities can provide a range of help and support to farming people currently facing difficulties. They can be contacted confidentially through the FCN Helpline on 07002 326 326, or for help with domestic expenses, direct to RABI on 01865 727888.
