LiFT (Liver Function Technology)

A UNIQUE package of vitamins and essential co-factors providing the tool to optimise the liver’s natural resources. Trials have shown that by adding LiFT to dairy cow rations, for 21 days pre calving and for the first 100 days in milk, average yields increase by over 1,000 litres in 305 days.* The value of this extra milk in the first 100 days exceeds the cost of adding LiFT by 4:1. After that, you are producing extra milk at no extra cost.

How does LIFT work

  • Reduces fat build up in the liver
  • Helps to improve liver function
  • Increases utilisation of fat from both the diet and adipose tissue
  • Improves detoxification in the liver
  • Decreases the build up of urea
  • Increases the supply of fat, glucose and protein to the mammary gland
  • More readily available energy for milk production

Which means...

  • Increased milk yield*
  • Increased peak yield*
  • Better persistency*
  • Aiding improvements in health, welfare and fertility*

* Trial data: Myerscough College

Optimising liver function

Feeding high performance cows to exploit genetic potential is a major challenge. This should not happen in isolation – keeping these cows happy and healthy is just as important for long term profitability. From the dry period through to early lactation the cow goes through a huge period of change and her dietary requirements alter dramatically. In early lactation total energy requirement is very high and so the amount of fat in the diet, as a proportion of total dry matter intake, must increase substantially.

Supplies of fat to meet requirements will also come from body reserves. This all means that the cow must cope with increased fat mobilisation, often up to 1kg a day, and at the same time get rid of waste products produced as a result of this increase in metabolism. The liver plays a vital role in this. However, its ability to metabolise fat is relatively inefficient. So, fat builds up in the liver and its function is reduced. In addition, detoxification slows down, ammonia accumulates and there’s a reduced supply of fat, glucose and protein to the udder. This whole process of events creates a bottle neck effect in the liver. LiFT provides the tool to optimise the liver’s natural resources and helps to overcome the areas of metabolic weakness, increasing its efficiency. It helps to metabolise free fatty acids in the liver, decrease the production of ketones and transport fat from the liver. Improved liver function will allow more energy to be supplied to the udder. A healthy liver will contribute to improved performance and to the well-being of the cow.
