LACTEC 45

Most modern ruminant rations will use added sugars. Often this sugar is supplied from one source, and in forms, which are very rapidly digested in the rumen, resulting in lower digestive efficiency. In severe cases this can lead to problems such as acidosis. This problem can be further increased when high levels of supplementary cereals are fed, a situation that could be evident this year due to lower cereal prices.

A new product containing both molasses and distilling co-products called LACTEC 45 has been developed to feed with low protein forages such as maize silage. Fed at 1 - 1½ kgs per cow per day it will give the necessary 2 - 3 gms of lactose to enhance rumen functions. It reduces the free ammonia in the rumen so improving performance, giving higher dry matter intakes and reduces the risk of acidosis. Enhanced palatability along with correct balance of sugars, when added to the 45% Crude Protein level makes LACTEC 45 a very valuable addition to TMR diets.
